Free Grounding and Filling Embodied Practice
Grounding is a practice of re-connecting to yourself; to your ability to sense your body, feel your feet on the earth, and as a result calm your nervous system. By learning to experience yourselves as embodied you can stay true to what you are sensing and feeling in the moment, creating space to respond in a healthy way.
Grounding recenters you, creating a state of wholeness in the present moment. It re-balances your nervous system, bringing you from stress, anxiety, and anger to a calm centeredness. It is an effective way to become aware of your stressors as well as a way to cope with emotional overwhelm and it is a key resource for trauma recovery.
Before our nervous systems were fully developed as children we needed the nervous system of a supportive caregiver to help us come back to a state of calm regulation and to stay there. Many of us did not get that.
The earth is an excellent co-regulator that we can connect with now(no matter what our history is) and rely on it to bring us back to a regulated state.
Why am I giving this away for free?
There is a lot of information out there about grounding, about the benefits of connecting to the earth, and feeling supported by her. You’ve probably tried one or two. They probably required you to be in a quiet state to even get started.
My process is a little different. Working with women over the years I’ve learned that the most successful grounding practice starts where we are, with a snapshot of this moment in whatever way we are showing up for ourselves; even and especially if we are tired, angry, or anxious.
We can’t get where we need to go if we don’t know where we are.
Once we ground from an embodied place we can then also draw from the earth whatever it is we need, even if we don’t know what we need.
